When it comes to reading, I do fairly well. I read a lot more than I did at the beginning of the year. When the year started I wasn’t required to read, so I didn’t. But now that I have had to read, I’ve been enjoying it a lot more and getting more interested in different types of books. As a writer, I have improved a great amount. At the beginning of the year I was a horrible writer and would absolutely hate to write anything at all. But now, I’ve had more experience with longer essays and other writing projects like the I-Search, so I have improved. My research skills have also taken a turn for the better. The thing that helped the most was definitely the I-Search project. It required a lot of work and it helped out a lot.
This year has been full of accomplishments for me in both reading and writing. I have had to do a lot more than I had been used to up to this point. I was actually challenged to do my best whereas before, I had just cruised along not having to add that much detail to anything I did. Things like I-Search and the quotation analyses really challenged me to become a better writer.
the thing I am most proud of from this year is my I-Search. The I-Search required a lot of time and effort, something I haven’t been used to when it comes to writing. It helped me in a number of ways. It first off helped me with research. It required a good reliable source that could be used for this piece of writing. I didn’t know how to find reliable websites to use on projects. Second, it thought me how to properly site things such as books and websites. I didn’t really need to every sight anything before so this gave me some good practice for the future. Another thing it helped me was organizing information. I would write numerous notecards and would have to put them in the order of how I wanted my paper to be written, this helped a lot. Lastly, it helped my writing skills. It required a lot of work and had to be a lot of pages. This helped me learn to focus on acquiring a tremendous goal and not stop until it is achieved, in this case, eleven pages worth of writing. Because of all of the time and effort it took to do the I-Search, that is why I am the most proud with it.
My writing and reading habits have gotten better over the course of this year. before freshman year, I would not read very often, unless I absolutely had to. This year, I was required to read at least one hundred pages per week and the amount of writing I had to do increased from eighth grade. Now, reading has become something I do on a regular basis because it has become a habit, and it no longer seems like a chore.
